Celebrate Black freedom, community and pride with this local lineup of Juneteenth events

Capital City Juneteenth Celebration

Cranmer Drive, Raleigh, June 14, 2-6:30 p.m.

Bring a blanket or low beach chairs to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and food at Dorothea Dix Park as a part of this free annual festival, presented in partnership by the Capital City Juneteenth Committee, the City of Raleigh and Dix Park Conservancy. From gospel music and Black storytellers to motorcycle clubs and HBCU presentations, there’s something for everyone at this celebration of freedom.

Party in the Park: Juneteenth Edition

3150 Elion Dr., Durham, June 19, noon-3 p.m.

Head to Research Triangle Park for a fun-filled Juneteenth celebration. Join in the festivities and learn a line dance, play Double Dutch or cool off at the splash pad, all while browsing an artist vendor market and grabbing a bite to eat from local food trucks.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro Juneteenth Celebration

301 W. Main St., Carrboro, June 19, 4-8 p.m.

Commemorate Juneteenth at this annual joint festival, first held in 2020 when the towns proclaimed official observance of the holiday. Peruse history exhibits to learn about Juneteenth, take in the lineup of performers or connect with local organizations.

Juneteenth at Stagville

5828 Old Oxford Rd., Durham, June 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Historic Stagville preserves a small section of what was once the Cameron plantations, where more than 900 people were enslaved in 1864. This free Juneteenth program promotes reflection, healing and togetherness while giving visitors a chance to engage up close with the history of the occasion. View original living quarters of enslaved people, a large barn and archaeological sites, and learn about the site’s efforts at preservation, research and genealogy.

NC Juneteenth Celebration

777 East Lawson St., Durham, June 21, 1-8 p.m.

Mark 20 years of this joyful and educational event with a full day of festivities hosted by Spectacular Magazine and the Triangle Cultural Awareness Foundation on North Carolina Central University’s campus. Watch dance, music and spoken word performances by local artists and nationally recognized artists; browse fare and wares from African and African-American vendors; engage in games and crafts in the Children’s Village; catch an Afro-centric fashion show; and visit a variety of exhibitor booths displaying community resources and services.

Annual Juneteenth Black Arts Festival

Annual Juneteenth Black Arts Festival – Juneteenth events throughout the Triangle

191 Fairgrounds Rd., Pittsboro, June 21, 4-8 p.m.

Celebrate Black artistry this Juneteenth at the Chatham County Fairgrounds. Hosted by Community Organizing for Racial Equity, the festival recognizes the impacts of Black arts on American culture and provides opportunities to connect with artists in person. Listen to live music and try local fare from a variety of food trucks at this family-friendly event.

Freedom & Legacy Juneteenth Festival

2000 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, June 21, noon-4 p.m.

The Black Farmers Market and The Coco Drip are copresenting this event to celebrate Black excellence, history and freedom. Check out dozens of vendors, play games and take in live performances and cooking demonstrations. Commemorate Juneteenth this year by supporting Black farmers and entrepreneurs and participating in a celebration of community and resilience.
