The Ackland Art Museum is UNC-Chapel Hill’s local museum with a global outlook. Its location and programs bridges campus and community. The museum is free, open and accessible to all. Its goal is to empower you to get close to art — the familiar, the unexpected, the challenging — and connect with the complexity and beauty of the wider world.
The Ackland’s collection of more than 20,000 works of art spans time periods and cultures, showcasing the breadth and depth of human expression. It has North Carolina’s largest collection of Asian art. In addition to major exhibitions and rotating installations, visitors of all ages can take part in free and low-cost programs including lively conversations, performances, artist talks, art classes and much more. The Ackland is open Wednesday through Sunday and stays open until 9 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.
