One of the world’s largest and most influential modern dance festivals marks its 93rd season, spotlighting the Paul Taylor Dance Company.

The program features four works by four choreographers, including Vive La Loie/Junction by Jody Sperling, an homage to Loïe Fuller that draws on her synesthetic approach to color, in which multihued lighting is composed like musical notes. Under the Rhythm by Robert Battle, the company’s second resident choreographer, is inspired by a poem and dedicated to his mother, set to a jazz-influenced score featuring Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald and Wycliffe Gordon. Byzantium (1984), by Paul Taylor, is a dark, symbolic work exploring themes of religious tyranny and power, inspired by his vision of the Byzantine era. The program also includes a new work by choreographer Pam Tanowitz, an ADF alum.
