Chapel Hill LGBT History Tour

Senator Jesse Helms referred to Chapel Hill as “The Gay Capital” of North Carolina. The town was known for its many firsts, from the first gay bar in North Carolina, the first openly gay elected official in the South, the first pride march in the state and the first church service performed by a lesbian.
