Wake County

Earth Day at Fenton

April 22

Celebrate Mother Earth at Fenton Square from 4-7 p.m. with family-friendly festivities, hands-on activities, immersive learning experiences and sustainable fun for all. Bring “anything with a plug” and recycle it responsibly at an official electronics recycling truck, get creative at The Scrap Exchange’s sustainable craft station, unwind with a grounding yoga class hosted by YogaSix, learn about the Fenton Bees with Buddha Bee Apiary, pick up a free plant from Davis Landscaping, and stick around for a 7 p.m. screening of “Bee Movie.”

Morgan Street Cleanup

April 22

Join the community at Raleigh’s Wolfe & Porter for a communal trash pickup from 6-7 p.m. Grab a drink, meet new friends and toast to a cleaner Raleigh. Gloves and bags will be provided.

Raleigh Earth Day at Dix Park

April 24

Experience this fifth annual family- and eco-friendly festival – a celebration where community, local organizations and city departments gather to uplift environmental efforts, sustainability and connection. Enjoy an evening of earth-conscious activities, featuring local vendors, land acknowledgement, a traditional indigenous welcome with David Rahahę́·tih Webb, Earth dances, environmental awards and a “trashion” show from 5-10 p.m. at Harvey Hill. Stay for an outdoor screening of “Jane,” a National Geographic documentary detailing the early career of primatologist Jane Goodall.

Apex EarthFest

April 25

Enjoy an afternoon at this interactive festival at Apex’s Town Hall Campus from noon to 4 p.m., offering insights on ways to protect and celebrate our planet. This year’s theme is “sustainable fashion,” featuring live performances from band Holler Choir, a vendor market, a fashion show and clothing swap, pollinator and plant installations, information booths and more.

Durham County

Goose Creek Cleanup

April 22

Bring your closed-toe shoes, pants and long sleeve shirts, and meet at the Speedway station at 803 E Geer St. at 9 a.m. for a creek cleanup adventure. Help clean Goose Creek – an important tributary to Ellerbe Creek from east and central Durham – and protect the Falls Lake drinking water supply. Note: This event is only suitable for volunteers ages 17 and older.

Invasive Plant Removal

April 24

Don your sturdiest closed-toe shoes or boots and protective clothing for an afternoon of removing harmful invasive plants at Elmira Avenue Park from 3-5 p.m. Tools and gloves will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own labeled pruners and saws, and don’t forget your water bottle. Note: This event is only suitable for volunteers ages 12 and older. Participants between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Greatest American Cleanup

April 25

Join Keep Durham Beautiful and hundreds of its North Carolina-based affiliates in this national campaign from 9-11 a.m. for a morning of massive impact during the largest environmental cleanup in our country’s history! Bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a small backpack, and clean up East Geer Street from Cheek Road to Tobacco Road, and Cheek Road from East Geer Street to Center Street. Note: Volunteers will be split into at least three starting locations for this event, which is only suitable for participants ages 10 and older.

Bazaar at the Yard

April 25

Practice sustainability by shopping for vintage clothing and accessories from noon-5 p.m.! Explore curated collections from more than 40 local vendors while enjoying live music, games, food and beer at Boxyard RTP.

Community Workday

April 26

Visit Panther Creek Forest Farm for the chance to help nurture its next generation of trees from 9 a.m.-noon. Activities include constructing shade structures, flipping compost piles, weeding potted trees and more. Tools, snacks, water and gloves will be provided, but closed-toe shoes, long pants, water bottles and hats are recommended.

Durham Garden Tour

May 2 & 3

Immerse yourself in the beauty and grandeur of Mother Nature during this third annual two-day tour. Explore 11 distinctive gardens throughout Durham County, each featuring inspiring examples of sustainable and creative design.

Orange County

Keep Carrboro Beautiful

April 22

This family-friendly gathering and Earth Day cleanup is the perfect opportunity to join with friends and neighbors to keep Carrboro clean and tidy, preventing trash from entering the town’s local streams. All ages are welcome! Meet at the Drakeford Library Complex at 5:30 p.m. – all cleanup supplies will be provided.

Earth Day Celebration

April 22

Head to Blackwood Farm Park from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for an evening designed to educate, inspire and entertain – all in the spirit of Earth Day! Explore family-friendly hands-on activities, a vendor market, scenic nearby hiking trails and a rain barrel workshop, including a raffle for a free rain barrel.

Chatham County

Earth Day Virtual Screenings

April 22

Mother Earth is precious to all her inhabitants and it’s important that we keep it clean for all who call it home. Join a virtual screening of “Entangled” –  an educational documentary highlighting the survival, food supply and environmental threats surrounding the endangered right whale – through April 24, hosted by Chatham Community Library.

Earth Day Canoe Paddle and Cleanup

April 22

Paddle the Haw River with Friends of Lower Haw and NC State Parks from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. while cleaning up trash along the way. The 3.4-mile adventure starts at Bynum Mill Access and ends at the US 64 Haw River Canoe Access. NC State Parks will provide the canoes, life jackets and shuttle ride, but volunteers must provide their own snacks and lunch. Note: Space is limited to 10 participants – preregistration is required.
