Suffering is inevitable, but resistance is optional. Buddhism calls suffering the first arrow, the one out of a person’s control. Resistance to suffering is the second arrow, the one people shoot at themselves when they’re already hurting. Whether it is self-criticism for not being stronger or struggling with questions such as “Why me?” resistance is an understandable response when times are hard. Unfortunately, this resistance makes an already challenging time even harder. There is a different way!

Self-compassion practices teach participants how to be in relationship with their own suffering in a way that reduces suffering and shifts the physiology of the body and brain toward safety and support. But simply “thinking kind thoughts” isn’t going to be impactful. Participants need to get into the body and shift their state through felt sense and direct access to the loving awareness within.

Participants will leave this afternoon course with a powerful toolkit for resilience during stressful times.

What participants will gain:

  • Accessible educational insights on the science of self-compassion

  • An understanding of the nervous system’s response to stress

  • Embodied practices, including gentle meditations, soothing self-touch, mindful movement and guided reflection to integrate the learning

  • A deeper connection to the compassionate witness within

  • A safe, sacred space that welcomes participants exactly as they are, with no pressure to share

  • Lasting change through powerful, evidence-based practices that support long-term habits, shift neural pathways and create a foundation for lifelong resilience and well-being
