In Tibetan, bardo means “gap” or “intermediate state.” While most famously known as the transitional state of consciousness between death and rebirth, it broadly describes any in-between moment or phase in which one condition has ended and a new one has not yet formed. Transitions occur continuously in life, sometimes generating excitement and often bringing uncertainty, anxiety and grief.

In this Yin Yoga practice, participants will explore the bardo of this life by accessing the pauses between breaths, thoughts and actions through gentle yoga asanas, breathing practices and meditation. Together, participants will relax into the bardo with curiosity, allowing them to examine their relationship with uncertainty with confidence and ease.

This event is offered by donation.

Susan Friedman began practicing yoga 20 years ago in search of relief from pain and overwork. In the quiet on the mat, she discovered that the breath eases the gap between discomfort and ease. In addition to teaching yoga, Friedman is a social worker dedicated to community care. In her classes, she facilitates spaces where the heart can rest and the spirit can reflect. Her approach is trauma-informed and deeply rooted in empathy, weaving together the wisdom of yoga, meditation and Tai Chi to foster emotional resilience and collective healing. She is a 500-hour Yoga Alliance-certified teacher and a certified Tai Chi practice leader.
